How What I Do Affects You
Greetings
to our authors! We at Medallion Press believe publishing
is a partnership. As such, we’d like
you to meet the people who partner with you every day to publish
books we all take pride in. Each member of our phenomenal
publishing team has written a little bit about what he or
she does to give you a glimpse of the inner workings of Medallion
Press. This month, we introduce the editorial department.
I’m the queen. I rule. If I like you, you’re
in. If I don’t, you’re out. Tee hee. That’s
how I affect you. —Helen
I’m the junior vice president at Medallion Press, as
well as the horror acquisitions editor. I actively seek and
acquire the best horror manuscripts and provide input for
developing and marketing them. —Ali
As editorial director,
I develop strategies for the field and focus of publication.
I solicit, acquire, and review book
projects and draft and negotiate contracts for new works.
I work closely with marketing and sales to ensure books meet
the needs of target markets, with production so book projects
remain on schedule, and with authors to develop and refine
book positioning. I read and edit as many active manuscripts
as possible and oversee all aspects of the editorial department
with direction from the executive editor. —Christy
As editorial manager,
I line edit manuscripts and work directly with authors to
ensure each work’s grammatical accuracy
and conformity to house style. I also edit ad copy and write
or revise blurbs. In addition, as needed, I solicit, acquire,
review, and negotiate contracts for new works with input from
the president, vice president, executive editor, and editorial
director. —Emily
My primary tasks
as an editor include proofreading and editing manuscripts,
as well as communicating with authors about changes
to manuscripts. In addition to these more obvious duties,
however, I’m also responsible for writing blurbs, staying
up-to-date with the trends in several literary genres, making
recommendations regarding acquisitions, and editing ad content,
press releases, and updates to the Medallion Web site. —Carolyn
We like our authors’ voices to be heard, and that is
part of what I do. If any author has a question or concern,
bring it to me! I make sure questions get answered and concerns
are alleviated, using excessive force only when necessary!
In addition, I am also the primary submissions contact. I
receive all submissions and, along with the entire editorial
staff, review each and every one for publication consideration.
I also proofread our covers and novels to ensure that every
finished product you see is as fantastic as the creator intended! —Jessica
