It’s February, and of course
that means Valentine’s Day. A time for love, romance,
and . . . awesome blunders.
Last month we listed
several ways to improve your manuscript, and now we’re going to share some blunders from manuscripts
we’ve received. (To those of you who have submitted
to us, don’t worry. We promise we won’t name any
names.)
When writing a romance, you know how important it is to choose
the right words for all those magnificent moments leading
up to when the hero and heroine fall madly in love. Well,
here are a few examples of what not to say.
Her eyes glowed like golf balls. (This person will never
write for us!)
His erection sprang
from his crotch. (Wait! Wait! Don’t
let it get away!)
Her hair tumbled toward the ground. (What a spectacular fall.)
“
There’s nothing for you to fear,” he whispered,
his mouth never breaking contact with hers. (Did the sound
come out his ears?)
Happy Valentine’s Day! And remember to double-check
your manuscript for any awesome blunders . . . or your work
just might end up in our next Editor’s Corner.
