Michael
McCarty has been a professional writer since 1983 and
is the author of numerous books of fiction and nonfiction, as
well as hundreds of articles, short stories, and poems. In 2009,
he was named as a finalist, along with collaborator Mark McLaughlin,
in two different Bram Stoker Award categories: Best First Novel
of 2008 for Monster Behind the Wheel (Corrosion
Press/Delirium Books), and Best Poetry Collection of 2008 for Attack
of the Two-Headed Poetry Monster (Skullvines Press). In 2008,
he received the David R. Collins Literary Achievement Award from
the Midwest Writing Center.
In late
2008, Lachesis Publishing released McCarty's second novel, Out
Of Time, cowritten with Connie Corcoran Wilson. His first
solo novel is the 2009 satirical vampire tale Liquid Diet (Black
Death/Demonic Clown Books).
McCarty’s
fiction collections include Dark Duets (Wildside Press), All
Things Dark And Hideous, cowritten with Mark McLaughlin (Rainfall
Books, UK), Little Creatures (Sam’s Dot Publishing),
and A Little Help From My Fiends (Sam’s Dot Publishing).
In early 2010, Sam’s Dot Publishing released Rusty the Robot’s
Holiday Adventures, a children’s book by McCarty and Sherry
Decker. Also in 2010, Skullvines Press McCarty’s novella, I
Kissed a Ghoul.
In 2005,
he was a Bram Stoker Award finalist in the nonfiction category
for More Giants of the Genre. Other nonfiction books
by McCarty include Esoteria-Land (Bear Manor Media), Giants
of the Genre (Wildside Press), Modern Mythmakers (McFarland & Company),
and Ghostly Tales of Route 66, cowritten with Connie
Corcoran Wilson (Quixote Press). He also writes the Vampire
Mania column for GravesideTales.com.
McCarty
lives with his wife, Cindy, in Rock Island, Illinois, and is a
former stand-up comedian, musician, and managing editor of a music
magazine.
